Configuring Windows clients

Before you set up your AppleShare IP file server, you need to make sure your Windows computers are configured properly. If you need more information, consult your Windows networking documentation.

To configure your Windows client computers:
1 On your Windows clients, install and configure the appropriate networking software (part of your Windows software), including TCP/IP.
2 If the Windows clients are in a different subnet from the file server, set up name resolution service (software that associates IP addresses with their Internet domain names).
If you do not have a Windows NT server, create and install LMHOSTS files on each Windows computer. (See the LMHOSTS.SAM file installed with your Windows 95 or Windows 98 software.)
If you have a Windows NT server, set up WINS (Windows Internet Naming Service) software.
3 If you have a Windows NT server, and Windows clients are in a different subnet from the file server, configure the server to allow browsing across subnets.
The Windows clients and file server must be members of a Windows NT domain on your network.
